Privacy Policy

At Makets, we respect your privacy. This policy outlines exactly how we collect, store, and process data for merchants, customers, and visitors.

Last Updated: July 4, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Gérer Maket ("Makets", "we", "us", or "our"), a mobile-first Progressive Web Application (PWA) designed to enable local merchants in Cameroon to launch simple, beautiful storefronts, share catalogs on social media, receive structured WhatsApp orders, and verify mobile payment transactions.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and secure your information when you use our platform, whether as a registered business owner ("Merchant"), a retail consumer browsing a storefront ("Customer"), or a general visitor to our site.

2. Information We Collect

A. Merchant Account Information

To register, set up, and configure a storefront on Makets, we collect your business profile data including your email, name, storefront slug/name, phone number, logo, and cover images. We also store your preferred Mobile Money (MTN MoMo, Orange Money) numbers and custom instructions so customers can send you direct peer-to-peer payments.

B. Customer Order & Checkout Information

Customers can browse and buy from merchant storefronts without ever creating an account. During checkout, we collect order fulfillment details: customer name, phone number, delivery address, custom product options, and receipt screenshots uploaded to verify Mobile Money transactions.

C. Storefront Visitor Analytics

We collect privacy-conscious analytics events (like product and service views, and checkout visits) to help merchants understand their storefront performance. These metrics use anonymous visitor identifiers and we explicitly avoid combining raw analytics metadata with customer PII (names, phones, or emails).

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect for the following specific purposes:

  • To provide and maintain our service: Authenticating merchants, rendering active storefront catalogs, and enabling order tracking dashboards.
  • To facilitate ordering: Formatting checkout baskets into structured order summaries that are passed to WhatsApp to initiate merchant-customer chat threads.
  • To verify payments: Storing uploaded mobile money transaction receipts securely so merchants can verify payment validity from their dashboard.
  • To communicate: Sending system-critical emails, auth links, and push notifications to registered merchants.

4. Sharing & Disclosure

We believe in keeping your commercial transactions direct. We do not sell your personal data. Your information is shared only under the following limited conditions:

  • Between Merchants and Customers: When a customer submits an order, their order summary, delivery details, and mobile money receipt are sent directly to the merchant via WhatsApp.
  • Service Providers: We share necessary credentials with hosting providers (Netlify), authentication and database hosts (Supabase), and message dispatchers (Twilio, Resend) solely to operate the platform infrastructure.
  • Compliance with Law: We may disclose information if required to do so by applicable laws, regulations, or legal processes.

5. Security & Storage

Our infrastructure is built with enterprise-grade data security:

  • Row Level Security (RLS): Our PostgreSQL database (powered by Supabase) restricts access to tenant records so that merchants can only read, edit, or delete their own listings and settings.
  • Storage Encryption: All payment proofs, merchant banners, and digital assets are stored in secure cloud buckets with access control policies.
  • Secure Sign-In: Supabase authentication supports secure magic links and Google Sign-In, protecting merchant account credentials.

6. Cookies & Browser Storage

We use browser storage technologies to keep your shopping and management flows smooth:

  • Session Cookies: Kept strictly for user authentication, maintaining secure sessions for merchants accessing the dashboard.
  • Local Storage: Used to temporarily persist cart items, store recently viewed listings, and maintain PWA configuration preferences on your local device.

7. Your Choices & Rights

We want you to maintain full control of your business data:

  • Access and Correction: Merchants can view, edit, and update their catalogs, business listings, and settings at any time directly through their dashboards.
  • Account Deletion: If you wish to delete your merchant account and remove your active storefront from the web, please contact us. We will delete your catalog listings, store settings, and user details in a timely manner.
